there is certainly no reason to ship a ZIP with a DMG inside with the 
app inside (you could just ship the DMG directly).

i don't exactly remember the reason why I went for DMGs, but i think it 
is along the line that we *could* make the DMG a bit nicer, with a 
symlink to the /Applications/ folder and some background graphics to 
instruct the users to drag Pd into the folder to "install" it.

iirc, that was how people in macOS land were used to self-contained 
install applications (no idea what the current state of affairs is)

we never actually implemented this though.



in any case, i've changed the CI-scripts to explicitly use "-fs hfs+" in 
the future.

PS: mostly for miller: afaict the macOS builder machine will be mostly 
offline during the next fortnight for maintenance reasons. we held back 
till after the Pd release, but now is the time. this basically means 
that we won't be able to produce signed & notarized binaries for the 
next two weeks. so the extracting the DMG into a ZIP seems like a good 
short time solution.
