0.56 already includes a commit by iohannes to handle a literal
"default" color in the future which would ideally lead to a scenario
like this - see:

i played around with this exact mechanism in
https://github.com/ben-wes/pure-data/tree/feat/preserve-default-colors
you can choose the "default" color with a new button in the gui
properties. currently, this "default" color is internally handled as
#FFFFFFFF (saved as "default" though), which is probably not a good
solution. so obviously, this is merely a crude proof of concept. but
feel free to test it for further discussion.
