it also happens to me when working on my patch with 9 templates and ~63500 scalars. usually I have to force quit Pd instead of closing the patch. can also happen when editing complex templates - specially if scalars are already created, with a much higher chance if the canvas is open. I think it hardly happens if there are no scalars.
