if you want to "take over" (I agree with Dan that <https://github.com/pd-externals> would be a great place for this¹), than it might be good to keep the commit history of the external. 
(chances are, that you might need to adjust things a bit; I guess it's mostly switching the build system to pd-lib-builder)

you can clone it from <https://git.puredata.info/cgit/svn2git/libraries/boids.git/> (which includes *only* the history of boids, and not the entirety of pd-extended)
