CPU problems only after hours

dear list,

i encounter a problem with my project.

it is a matrix based sequencer with different sets, meaning that the user can play notes in the matrix eg on set 1. and then the user can go to the next set and put notes there. meanwhile, the first set keeps playing. by changing sets, the user gets a visual update on the notes that are selected for playing in the matrix. the matrix basically consists of [switch]es. also the settings for effects and some other stuff that the user can adjust per set is visually and internally updated.

Think of the Yamaha Tenori-On;-)

This is the instrument explained in a few words. i can surely go into more detail later, which will probably be necessary talking about cpu ..

For an art installation the instrument will not be played by a human, but is instead played by a few sensors. The sensors are connected to four Teensy boards which are sending the sensor data into Pd via USB and Midi. This works great.

The problem that I encounter is this:

When I let the sensors and instrument do their thing, everything is fine. CPU load is at about 30-50 % according to Pd‘s load meter. But after 2-3 hours or so, I hear crackles in the audio, the cpu load goes up to over 100 %. The audio is not fluent anymore, it‘s lagging.

I am on a Macbook Pro 2014. I turned off the macbooks fallback into login screen because i suspected it to take down computation power when it is in login screen. but this did not solve the problem.

Do you have some ideas that could point me into the right direction?

Yes, the audio-load in this matrix instrument is cpu-heavy, but i am confused because everything is totally fine for 2 or 3 hours and the cpu trouble starts just then..

If needed, I will go into detail on how the audio stream works, how instruments are [switch]ed on and off and more:)

Thank you for your time!

Jakob
