First we'd have to recompile and upload all existing externals. Then we have to check if they all actually work correctly! (Some external authors were a bit sloppy and just used 'float' instead of 't_float'.) BTW, did anyone to any benchmarks? Double precision floats take up twice as much register space as single precision floats, which affects vectorization. For example, a 256-bit AVX register can hold 8 floats, but only 4 doubles. I'm not against double-precision Pd per se, but it's not a trivial change!
