Spent some time looking at bus errors with AOO on Irix and realized that the Osc package itself created many of them. So went back to the AOO Fontana release which looked quite alignment safe from the lightweight AOO code itself, and branched BIG_ENDIAN code into a STRICT_ALIGMENT branch using memcpy() instead of direct pointer wizardry. That works now!
