Cannot play mp3 file's or add mp3's to playlist

Hi all

I just installed RH8.0 with xmms 1.2.7, and I noticed a problem.  I
can't add any mp3's to play (to the playlist) and can't listen to them
as well.   I downloaded an older version of mpg123 and can play them
from the command line, and I can wav files from xmms, but just not
mp3's.   This is i686 arch.  Anyone have any ideas?
