Strange thread behaviour with Slackware 8.1

Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing a very strange problem when I try to play a mp3 
playlist. For every mp3 played a new thread is created. The problem is 
the previous thread doesn't exit cleanly, so that a `ps aux` shows a lot 
of XMMS zombie process.
Did I miss something ?

xmms version : 1.2.7
gtk version : 1.2
glibc version : 2.2.5
linuxthread version : 0.9
gcc version : 3.2.1
linux distrib : Slackware 8.1
