Old issue, but still current: XMMS activity privacy. If you are asking a 3rd party for info, like an Internet server, they will have a chance to track your activity. This is a fundamental communications dynamic. It shows up in cookies, but a server can also store your query history, correlating to IP#, or the login required by the CDDB protocol. One answer is to use FreeDB, the righteous CDDB clone, by downloading the entire database, and posting queries to a local server instance that you control. If you do, you should submit diffs to FreeDB when you update the data with your own collection info. Of course, that puts you back into the privacy problem, but an additional layer of aggregation through the FreeDB user community can solve that problem. -- (C) Matthew Rubenstein
