menurc - overwritten on exit

Hello,

I have seen a couple of posts on google regarding this
but nothing with answers.

1) What is the intended usage of ~/.xmms/menurc?
2) Why is it overwritten?
3) How else can I get shortcuts to be interpreted by
xmms?
