How to listen to Internet Radio?

Hi,

The user forum web site is mis-configured or is buggy, I got the
following error accessing the forum:

        phpBB : Critical Error
        
        Error creating new session


I apologize for posting my user-support question here.

Over the years, I kept trying to listen to Internet Radio on Linux, but
every time I spent time installing XMMS, etc. and search the web for
documentation on how to use the software. Various web sites give
instructions similar to the following:


        Press CTRL+L, then enter: http://www.live365.com/play/wrajradio


as if that is the only thing we need and it will magically work. The
fact is that some pieces of the puzzle are still missing. When I
followed the instruction, XMMS dismissed the Play-location dialog box
and sat there. There isn't even an error message. I gave up repeated
after many hours of wasted effort.

I'm wondering if there is a plug-in that I need to install? Or why
exactly XMMS refused to stream Internet Radio?

I can use XMMS to play .ogg files. My Fedora Core 2 sound system has
been working well, except for not knowing how to play Internet Radio.

I have an Windows computer that I only used to play from an Internet
Radio station (free) using Media Player. Playing from Media Player is
more convenient than playing directly from the web page using IE (so, I
never play from those stations on the web pages routinely). However, I
haven't had time to educate myself on what protocol or format Media
Player is using and if there is a player on Linux that can do the job
for me. This information is a bit not readily there. I would welcome
information regarding the protocol or format used by Media Player and
how I can use it on Linux.

Would someone give a pointer or two? Thank you very much.
