It seems that XMMS can't load the stream directly, for example if I 
enter in the location the URL http://somafm.com/dronezone.pls nothing 
happens here. I if "download" this URL via 'wget' and then look into 
the file:

numberofentries=2
File1=http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1032
Title1=SomaFM Presents: Drone Zone 128k (Feed #1)
Length1=-1
File2=http://server2.somafm.com:8002
Title2=SomaFM Presents: Drone Zone 128k (Feed #2)

Grab one URL of your choice "http://64.236.34.97:80/stream/1032" and 
enter this URL in the location box. And this works for me and my 
xmms-1.2.10-1 of my "Fedora Core 1" Box. Good luck for you...
