doesn't restart playing after stop/pause (dmix)

Hello,

Steps to reproduce:

   1. ALSA Output: dmix device
   2. Play a song with XMMS
   3. Pause or stop the song
   4. Restart playing: nothing happens
   5. as soon I'm using another device than "dmix" - xmms can restart
      playing.


my system: kernel 2.6.9, alsa built-in, xmms 1.2.10, gentoo stage 2
dmix: I used the default configuration of ALSA:
/etc/asound.config and ~/.asoundrc are both empty
-> somehow a default-dmix exists and works with alsaplayer f.e.


what could be wrong?
