XMMS will not load except as root

I had xmms working great for 12 days after my MDK 10.1 0 install, mozilla 
locked up yesterday and I  had to reboot, now when trying to run xmms from 
the system menu it will appear to load, but won't come up.  System processes 
shows it as running though.  If I try to run it from the cli this happens:

[chris@cpollock chris]$ soundwrapper xmms
Unable to create symbolic link: File exists

I can run it su'd to root though.  AFAIK this is the latest version that was 
with MDK 10.1
