Thanks Cal, finally got it to work after mucking around with  the renice 
command.  I had to renice xmms to -20, renice mozilla to 15.  After I closed 
mozilla I had to renice Kmail to 15.  Odd I never had this problem when 
running MDK 9.0 with a much older kernel.
