Re: xmms cpu usage with kernel > 2.6.10

I had the problem with xmms too, that it used too much cpu usage with 
2.6 kernels (compared to a 2.4 kernel). I don't know what eventually 
solved my problems, but you should try the following.

1) Try the patchset for the 2.6 kernels from Con Kolivas
http://members.optusnet.com.au/ckolivas/kernel/

2) If you intend to use your system solely with 2.6 kernels, make sure 
that your system (glibc) uses the NPTL thread system. Google around for 
this issue, I don't know that the status of FC[34] with this issue is. 
If you're currently not using NPTL you will have to recompile at least 
glibc and xmms. However for the average user it will for sure be easier 
to install a recent linux distribution with NPTL enabled.
