Audio File Names

  I am running XMMS version 1.2.10 on a FreeBSD 6.1 system with Xorg.
   
  Is there a way that I can have XMMS recognize my wavfiles without having to add file (.wav) extensions?  My system sees that they are wavs but XMMS doesn't recognize them without the extensions.
   
  This is my first post here, so let me know if more information is needed or if the question should be directed elsewhere.
