IMO, the socket code and the confuse implementation are what is holding up
the next alpha release so at this point I would say these are the priority
to get completed in order to make the next release. 

One other issue that could be addressed for the next release is whether to
keep libtool or not as mentioned in a previous email. Since it was
introduced for a potential Win32 path but is not needed with our native
Win32 path, if it does not offer us anything useful, I think we should drop
it for the next release. 

Anything else can wait.
