I don't think there are any show stopper issues that are preventing an alpha
release and there have not been for some time. I would prefer a new alpha
release ASAP to stop bug reports on the very out of date alpha 2 if nothing
else.

I am still of the opinion that a timer which would then require flags and
other checks is not necessary. See my previous emails on the subject for a
system that does not require a timer or introduce the issues a timer would.

There have been some updates to the DBA to reduce open databases but they
are not yet complete.

This is not an issue which should delay a new alpha release since it should
already be better but will definitely be no worse than the current alpha in
release.
