I inherited a large odm file from a colleague, and I had to add a new section
but was unable to do so. I tried following this section from the help file.

To Insert an Entire Text Document as a Link
1. Place the cursor in the document where you want to insert the file.
2. Choose Insert - Section.
3. Type a name in the New Section box, and then select the Link check box.
4. In the File Name box, type the name of the file that you want to insert, or
click the browse button (...) and locate the file.
If the target text document contains sections, you can select the section that
you want to insert in the Sections box.
5. If you want, set the formatting options for the section.
6. Click Insert.

At step 2, when I click on Insert the Section box is not selectable.

If you press the "Edit File" button in the toolbar while a read-only file is
open, you'll get an untitled copy of the file to work with. When you try to
save the document you will be prompted for a file name.


What if that doesn't work?


There was a bug introduced in OOo 2.4.1 reagarding the Table of Contents (TOC).
If the TOC was protected from editing, it locked the entire document as
read-only. The workaround was to right-click the TOC, uncheck the Protected
against manual changes checkbox, save the document, close it, then reopen it. 

I tried both of those and they did not work.

I am using OO 3.3.0, build 9567.

It seems as if the file is behaving as read-only. When my colleague opens it
she can do all those tasks. Her navigator window also has different icons than
mine.
