The four functions or variables (including the mentioned rl_event_hook 
function which I determined to be of type int) are:

int rl_event_hook
rl_insert_text (char *)
history_truncate_file (char *,  int)
emacs_meta_keymap (according to /usr/include/history.h is no longer 
supported in MacOSX 10.4 [and possibly not supported in MacOSX 10.3.9])
