If project members are uploading files to share within the project, then
they should link those images on a Wiki page somewhere... if they don't
want to put it on a main wiki page (eg if it 's a temp/test/example file
for a discussion), then they should link them on a subpage of their user
page. A correctly linked image shows that it's at least of enough
interest that someone bothers to put it on a page. Uploaded files that
are no longer in use should be deleted (or marked to be deleted).
I agree... start with the old images... a judgment call should be made
on each image:
- Is it unrelated?
- Yes = delete immediately
- Is it related to OOo but unused?
- Delete if it's older than 12 months
- If it is 4-12 months old, mark it with the {{delete}} tag (or we
could create a new Template similar to the {{PageIgnoresWikiGuidelines}}
Template specific for uploaded files that are unused)
- If it is 0 to 4 months old, contact the owner and:
- Request they link it on a page if it's to be used, or
- Mark it {{delete}} if it's not going to be used
Actively deleting is a task that any of us with admin rights can do.
Marking files to be deleted with the {{delete}} tag can be done by anyone.
Once the backlog is cleared up, monitoring the unrelated/unlinked files
will be a simpler admin task.
