There are ongoing discussion between ASF and Oracle on the transfer.  I'm n=
ot in that loop.  The issue is not the hardware and the software but the te=
chnical skills of volunteers who will step up to support the systems at the=
 nuts-and-bolts operational level.

Normally, I'm told, maybe never, ASF doesn't accept targeted contributions.=
  It has a great deal to do with how the Foundation is chartered, it seems.

But both aspects are beyond my expertise, so I can only record my high-leve=
l understanding.

Great info Dennis.

I=C2=B4d just bug Ellison... I=C2=B4m sure Oracle could work out a
tax-refundable donation of the hardware (and all software running
inside if) hosting openoffice.org to the Apache Software
Foundation....

I=C2=B4ve learned over the years that usually it=C2=B4s just a matter of as=
king.
One assumes that they would say "no", but I wonder, did you guys ask
them?.
