Re: Database reports: a bit of history

That character, Σ, is the Greek character, a capital sigma, which is more like an S than an E.  It's been used as the symbol for summation in mathematics for a couple of millennia.

Σ comes near the end of the alphabet after rho (Ρ) and before tau (Τ).  The Greek letter much  like E is epsilon (Ε).

Have you tried =SUM(cell:cell)

My version has a Greek E symbol (sorry but I can't see how to do this quickly) for this function in the toolbar.
