What operating system are you runnings.  I assume Windows.  If so, click 
on the Start button and somewhere you should see a folder for 
OpenOffice.  In there, you'll find icons for the various OpenOffice 
components, including Writer.  The latest version is 3.3, which can be 
downloaded from www.openoffice.org.  If you install it, it will replace 
your current version.
