Hi Marcus,

you are right at all.

But I ask to all people to keep in mind this too too old and important 
issue for next release (3.4) because it is very tedious to deal with it.

If you type:

"Once upon a time... " -> "..." are NOT automatically corrected!

"OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice, Calligra, ... " -> "..." ARE automatically 
corrected!

There are too many years that, in order to enable automatic correction 
in the first sentence, I (and many users) have to type:

"Once upon a time ... " and then delete the incorrect space after 
"time"!!! :-(

Tedious, very tedious. And not so professional...

I finally think that a mechanism that permits to substitute a substring 
(and not only a whole string) may be also useful in many other fields, 
cases, subwords, ...
