Paul, yes it is possible to track down the before and after snapshots,
assuming we still have them.  However, I must point out that this
research has been done on my own wiki's bad magic.  I have before and
after snapshots which have been generated before and after the
incident which have *no* human editing inbetween.

Daniel could explain better, although I believe he would point you to
the mailing list archive.  I would point you to gmail's search.  I
will do some light searching myself to see if I can find the
conversations and database dumps of the previous bad magic witchhunt.

Additionally, I have enough snapshots of my database, going back to
2003, which have been kept with the intention of tracking down issues
like this.  The problem with this is that there is personal (and
sometimes NDA-protected) material in my database.
