[cowiki-dev] My short wishlist

Guys, I need your help with some very important features.  I would
like to argue for a release soon because there have been some very
significant changes to the parser, and the markup language has
changed.  This is a very big change which should be introduced to our
userbase as soon as possible, so we avoid invonveniencing more people.

I know that since I'm not a coder, I can't really make demands.. but I
would like to argue that a few features would greatly improve *my*
editing experience and would make it easier for me to refactor
cowiki.org.  I hope to then attract a larger audience.

These are the features which I would like to see implemented for the
next release, or at least for the next update of cowiki.org's coWiki
installation:

* A separate "discussion page" for every page.  Name it
"Talk:PAGENAME".  Think like mediawiki, which has a tab to discuss
every article.  I am tired of keeping notes on some other page on some
other web.  It is too disorganized.  It is also very annoying to
"fake" this functionality myself, by manually making ((Talk:PAGENAME))
links.

* Backlinks.  I would like to be able to make a list of the pages
which link to a certain other page.  This will allow me to have a
"fixme" link on many pages and then when I'm ready to fix things, I
summon its backlinks and visit these pages.  This technology is termed
the "wiki badge".

* Accesskeys / hotkeys.  It is too slow for me to update a page.  I
*need* alt-e to edit and alt-s to save.  Editing is very slow for me. 
Yes, moving a mouse and clicking a button is slow.  This completely
changes my editing experience, and I am ten times more capable when I
have hotkeys.

* Page moving -- between directories and webs.  It is too difficult to
organize pages without this feature, and it leaves a trail of broken
links.  Also , there is no "redirect" feature to assist with this. 
Talk pages would also have to be moved.

I know those three have been added to the issue tracker.  Here's a new
one I'd like to discuss:

* A lengthened user timeout.  I keep being logged out as I'm editing a
page, and this destroys my work.  I don't understand why I can't then
log in and then go back in my browser's history to continue editing my
page.. when I do this, I learn that my work has been destroyed.  This
is very frustrating, because it happens when I take 15+ minutes to
edit a page.


With the aid of these additional features, I will be able to much more
easily edit our main website to better represent coWiki.
