The reason why multibyte was not tested, implenented or available
after the re2c move is the complete lack of tests, real examples, etc.

There was a discussion on internals where many persons ask for real
use cases of this feature. I don't remember anyone having posted at
least one use case (last time I check was on Friday).

If you have other use cases for a couple of charsets, please commit
them as well. Maybe Scott or Marcus can also point you to to their
requests or ask for specific cases.

Indeed, and it is one of the last issues we have now for 5.3.

It would be nice to have a post on internals about this issue and its
status, to explain the changes or what has to be done(not everyone
follows the Zend cvs list).
