Thank you for bug report.
I found a very sinple scipt (t1.php, shown below)
causes segmentation error or stack error
using PHP 5.3 compiled with --enable-zend-multibyte.
It works fine with PHP 5.2.

mbstring.internal_encoding = UTF-8
mbstring.script_encoding = SJIS

$az="a";
?>

Current implementation of zend-multibyte for PHP 5.3 
is ported from PHP 5.2 with minimal changes.
I think that the incompatibilities between flex and re2c cause the
problem.
