Thanks Rich. Appreciate the time and advice. After some discussions with my hosting provider, it turns out that the PHP handlers applied in 8.1 and 8.2 were different (suPHP) to that in 8.0 (lsapi). The PHP handler has now been changed from suPHP to lsapi in ea-php81 and ea-php82, and the response time issue went away. No idea whether the relevant Handlers support people need to know about this, and I don't know how to report it to them anyway. Thanks again to all who replied.
