Ok .. i think we can safely remove this "protection" since it doesnt seem to be really be able to stop circular references anyways. It sounds like you have a pretty deep subgroup structure to test on. It seems to work for me. Essentially it will now fetch all groups that match the filter and will find any possible sub group hierarchy for each. When no filter is used, it will obviously end up finding the same structures again.
