I don't understand. Clearly, a | is used here, so we are talking about
grouping. In fact, this example does the same as my code, namely, clear
foo.tpl, using all cache_id's that start with the groups sports|basketball.

In my original post, I demonstrated how this does clear
foo.tpl/sports/basketball but not foo.tpl/sports/basketball/somedeepergroup
