[SMARTY] send smarty-display as email

Hello,
i am i the need to send html formated emails. 
I am using smarty as the display template-system, and so my first thought
was,
to use smarty in that case, too!
Can i change the direction of smarty->display to a handle or a variable wich
i can
then send through mime-enconding and smtp ?
At the moment i am using a mime-encoding class in another case. The only
problem is:
How to catch the contnet of the parsed smarty template ?
