you have "FROM species" duplicated. A SELECT can only have one FROM
clause (but several tables in it). Try this.

 SELECT CONCAT(
 UCASE(LEFT(species_name, 1)), RIGHT(species_name, 
LENGTH(species_name)) 
FROM species
 );
