how to connect to xindice using php and xml-rpc?

Would some please show me some code that correctly connects to a xindice database via php and xml-rcp? I have tried the examples at apace.org and sourceforge, ( the client / server one) with no success. I have searched the web for a working example with no luck. Thanks for any help. If this is the wrong forum please advise.
