a2ps font too big

When i run the below command i get an errormessage A2PS: Font ....  too
big.
When i change the chars-per-line to 125 it runs the command correct.
What is causing this message?
 
 


 cat /etc/passwd |/usr/sfw/bin/a2ps -v -B -o- -M A4 --portrait  --rows
57 --chars-per-line 110 --columns 1 --major columns > /tmp

a2ps: font 8.183722 too big
