Use Of Escapes

I'm trying to understand how to use escapes with a2ps (section 3.2 of the u=
ser guide).=20
In section 3.2.3 (page 24),  '\f'  is listed as triggering a form feed (new=
 page) by a2ps
however when I place that in the a2ps input it is printed as part of the ou=
tput.  Same=20
thing with '$n" for input file name.=20

Do escapes need to be incorporated into a style sheet?=20
