User ID?

I have instructions that I downloaded from MacOS X Hints on sharing a 
printer between a Mac and Windows XP.  I am trying to share a USB 
Printer (don't know if that is possible) but when I follow the 
instructions and access CUPS I am asked for a USER ID and a password.  
How do I establish these please!
