I did read your whole initial comment:
"The lpd queues are not affected."
and I replied to your initial comment.

Regarding LPD:

I had any kind of strange behaviour when accessing
network printers via LPD with the same basic root cause:
The LPD implementation in network printers is sometimes
"insufficient" (friendly wording).

Only with plain TCP socket (a.k.a. "AppSocket") it worked
reasonable well according to my experience.

This does not mean that there is no change in CUPS 1.5
(perhaps even a bug) which lets such issues happen now
more often - but it means that both IPP and LPD are known
to cause more issues compared to plain TCP socket.

The basic question is: Why do you actually need to use
the more complicated protocols like LPD or even IPP
to only send data to a network printer when this can
also be done via a plain TCP socket connection?
