small correction:

The cXXXXXX files store print job control info and the
dXXXXXX-YYY files store the data of the files which
are printed in one job as d<job-number>-<file-number>
so with
# lp -d queue file1 file2
one gets
c<job-number> plus d<job-number>-001 and d<job-number>-002
