erasepage stopped working in recent releases

The erasepage operator seems to have stopped working.I had used this operator without problems but in gs 9.24 it no longer seems to do anything. (this is viewing on the X11 display screen) Does anyone know why this has occurred ? Is there a fix in the works ?
