I've set them to blank in cvs. This works fine for me; please let me 
know if you have trouble. This change will also be in the 7.30 testing 
release.

I didn't make this one because it breaks building on 10.1.x. This is a 
work-around for a bug in Apple's gcc3. I've submitted a bug report. 
Turning off optimization is another option.

Note that macosx.mak is probably going away in a future release now 
that the autoconf build is working out of the box on osx. We just need 
to integrate the framework (and linux .so) builds.

Please let us know how it goes. We've not had much feedback on the 
framework build.
