Ghostscript messes up the heap and crashes when
ARCH_ALIGN_STRUCT_MOD > sizeof(ref)

This happens on HP-UX aC++/C for Itanium (bug 687730)
and on default-linux/ppc/2004.3, gcc-3.4.1, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r0,
2.6.8-gentoo-r4 ppc (bug 687730)

The fix has been posted to code review on 2004.09.14 but has not
been reviewed yet. Please take a look.
