The UBC Department of Computer Science is offering Merit Awards, in the amount of $10,000 each, to outstanding incoming students in several areas including programming languages and software engineering. The PL/SE faculty at UBC, including Eric Wohlstadter, Gail Murphy and Gregor Kiczales do ongoing research in areas such as aspect-oriented middleware, IDE support for modularizing crosscutting concerns and language/tool support for fluid aspects.

The department's merit awards are aimed at exceptional applicants. The awards are given on top of a guaranteed full package of financial support, which the department offers to all of its graduate students. All students applying to the MSc and PhD programs will be automatically considered.
