(n)Hibernate uses AOP to track changes to objects. There are also
other uses like what you discuss (logging, tracing, etc)

terracotta http://www.terracotta.org/web/display/enterprise/Home does
similar types of tracking in order to "transparently" connect multiple
JVMs.
