I am not sure if they published a paper for it but the guys working on
the puzzle framework a while ago http://www.puzzleframework.com/

Did some really neat stuff using custom visualizations of interceptor
chains with their dynamic proxy. Really made visualizing what was
happening a lot easier.

Might want to try to drop them an email.
