I think there is something like "a psychology of change". When faced by change people may react in different ways. It depends on what changes, how it changes, the perceived risk, and also on how many different other changes are being accumulated. If XP asks people to: - make organisational changes - make technical changes - make personal changes it may become too much for some. Change in an organisation is non trivial, certainly in bigger organisations. We must be very careful with the dimensions of the changes that we are trying to bring about. Therefore revolution meets a lot of resistance, and evolution is often much easier to digest. It's not about won't, can't, don't. It's about being careful to respect the nature of being human. "Embrace change" ... some people make it sound so easy and I can tell for some people it is very hard. Those people are not stupid, they are not unfriendly, ... they are normal. I want to make changes happen for normal people. I think it can be done.
