Yes. Although I'm less interested in finding a way for me to talk to those
companies than I am in finding a way for the individuals within those
companies to talk to each other.  I've talked about this before.  The
statement's been made, many times in many places, that "software's
different."  That leaves the CIO out there on her own, different from her
peers.  I think that statement's not really true except when software
development is compared to hardware manufacturing.  I think it's a lot less
true when it's compared to hardware development.  I think, my hypothesis is,
that it's also a lot less true when software development is compared with
other knowledge-based business activities.

Yes.  First, even companies that are not currently using Six Sigma may be
aware of it, may be considering it.  So the analogy, if one exists, would be
helpful to them as well.  Second, or maybe just the first in more detail,
there are two sides to both XP and 6S, the technical practices and the
cultural, organizational, etc., implications / requirements.  Lastly, Six
Sigma is only one area of interest with respect to searching for analogies.
Lean Manufacturing is another.  Kent's working on that.  Sales / Marketing
and Finance are two more areas that interest me.
